In 1972, Keshab Chandra Nag, the renowned mathematician and a direct disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, bought a piece of land next to his house at gurap, in the district of Hooghly, sanctified with the holy birth place of Revered Swami Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj, the 8th President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. An Ashrama, named as “Gurap Shri Ramakrishna Vishuddhananda Ashrama-O-Sevakendra founded in 1981. This ashrama was taken over by Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math in 2016. Keeping in mind the ideal of Sri Ramakrishna, 'Shiva jnane Jiva Seva', this ashram is working towards the rural development by spreading education, providing health services and training for the self-reliance of the underprivileged society.
